Investigators from the Scarsdale Police Department received a report from a Sherman Street resident on Oct. 9, who stated that between 10 and 15 bank checks that were written to him were missing from his 2010 Toyota.
The man said that he last saw the checks at approximately 11 a.m. when he went to the UPS store in New Rochelle. A half hour later, he drove to the bank to deposit the checks and found that they were missing. He proceeded to search his car, then drove home and searched his home for the checks without finding them.
Police said that the man “does not know where the checks went missing from, other than that they were inside his vehicle.” Officers inspected the vehicle and said there was no sign of force. The owner of the vehicle then advised investigators that he never locks his vehicle wherever he goes.
The man stated he did not know the exact written amount of every check, but said that it added up to almost $11,000. No bank funds have been reported missing. The incident remains under investigation by police.
